calgary stampede will be covered in the next day or so...

skated 60 laps again tonight, sleepy, going now...
the adventures of travelling around canada continue on tuesday, tres early in the morning. our friend darris is getting married next weekend in his home town of thunder bay, ontario, and we're making the road trip for the big event. 20 hours driving we believe, and we're doing it in one hit, woo hoo. 1808 km in one day, can it be done?

so as there is no ice in thunder bay, i am trying to squeeze in this weeks training program on the ice into this weekend, so far so good. we are taking mountain bikes just for the fun of it, on the subject of which i now have a new frame as i cracked the blue giant frame. you have to love 25 year warranties on bike frames ;-) the new frame is aluminum (aluminium) as opposed to the CroMo one i had before, so it's nice and light and strong.

so, what else is news? i am living in very convenient 'varsity', which is close to the university and oval, in my coach's three storey townhouse. this is the one that i spent a few weeks in, helping to demolish and renovate, so i am very familiar with the place. it is quite a nice place for a struggling athlete to be living in, but i guess i'm only here for 2 months (2 weeks are gone so far), i will come crashing down to reality in september i think ;-)

next will be my calgary stampede rundown......stay tuned.

more than a month, how come the readership has not (or is not) revolting. well i have seen one e-mail, so i can't complain really. life is still pretty cruisy (or should that be cruisey) here, training is now back in full swing. we are on the ice 3-4 days per week, working on endurance right now. this means a session on the ice of 70-90 minutes is made up of slow steady laps. two weeks ago is was 55 laps (400m oval) per session, this week it's 60 laps.

yesterday i did my 6 sets of 10 in 65 minutes, with 5 mins rest in between, which i was very happy with. i had to play volleyball with our team straight after training, so i had to get through training fairly swiftly. we then headed back to where i am staying at the moment for a small bbq. rest assured i was totally wrecked by the time i got home. i am back to the oval again tonight for 4 sets of 15 laps, woo hoo. no volleyball tonight tho' :-)

so why am i training on a weekend?
