so will i catch up to the present day ever? i may try, but who knows. i have some content put together, but not sure how much to use.

news, news, news...that's all they ever want :-)
what makes us want to travel, the chance to see more things, meet new people, both? i now essentially see my home as calgary. i've been here a year now, will have been here almost two by the time i head back to aus for the first time. does this make me a sellout, less of an aussie? i certainly don't consider myself in any way canadian, no offence to the locals, by the way.
calgary really has most things i could want, snow, fast ice, a warm summer with many skatable bike pathes along the river, my wonderful girlfriend (in case she reads this) ;-), some good friends, a good coach and high speed internet access. since i first came to north america in 1996, i said i could live here, but thought it was all only talk, guess not. that trip was quite eye opening for me, not that i saw all this stuff that amazed me, but i realised how much influence north america, and in particular the usa, has over australia. this is largely in commercial arenas, not solely though. i always thought australia had a more european feel to it, it seems not. we are certainly no little usa down under, but i think first time travellers to either country will be surprised at the similarities.
getting back to the very start of this entry, why do i like to travel? definately both, but more the people aspect. those who know me well, will realise i not uncomfortable with being in the limelight, and as an aussie over here, in many cases i just seem to stich out like a sore thumb, but in a good way. if it's not asking me whether i surf (no), or can you keep koalas/kangaroos as pets, it's just wanting to hear me talk. now you and i both know that i love the sound of my own voice, and when someone asks me about my favourite topic, me, all parties are happy, i talk, they listen, maybe not to the contents, but i pretend they do ;-)
joy division is one band that has a lot to answer for. i'm sure i'll miss someone out, but i can list the following artists/groups who have had something to do them in some way. new order, electronic, the smiths, morrissey, monaco, brushed, the other two, pet shop boys, ab fab, dusty sprinfield, liza minelli, kylie minogue, the list goes on and i'm only at the top level, i could go as far as six degrees of separation, maybe another. now apart from perhaps liza and dusty, i pretty much love everything these bands/artists have put out. especially monaco, made up of the new order bassist, peter hook and his fomer revenge sound engineer, whose name evades me right now. electronic would be a close second, but their last cd, 'twisted tenderness' let them down after their masterpiece 'raise the pressure' from 1996. the reason for mentioning all this garbage, other than to show off my musical knowledge, is that new order has a new song out 'crystal' and i'm amazed that they still have the same timeless style and feel to their music. it's like they keep their same sound without it aging, go figure... new order are also coing to vancouver in early august, and as i've never seen them, i may make the trek. if for no other reason but to say that i got to see them. they are playing with moby and his area:one festival, could be very cool.
the next one's an epic, sorry...
what can i say about the stampede, not much really... have you ever been to the royal melbourne show? the adelaide show? well i have, and it's much like them, but with cowboys.

nuff said really... more from the road, well at least it was written on the road on the way to or from thunder bay...
